Old smartphones will lose support for WhatsApp

The developers of the popular WhatsApp messenger announced the imminent end of support for older operating systems. Under the "distribution" were all obsolete smartphones with Windows Phone, iOS 8 and Android 2.3 on board.

Old smartphones will lose support for WhatsApp

According to WhatsApp official statements, support for Windows Phone will be completely discontinued on December 31, 2019. But iOS 8 and Android 2.3 will last a little longer – the end of support is scheduled for February 1, 2020.

The messenger team recommends that all users of older devices use the latest software updates, and if this is not possible, purchase a new smartphone.

It is worth noting that the termination of support does not mean that the application will stop working on older devices. The developers still guarantee delivery and receipt of messages, but you can forget about all the new messenger features.

Also on legacy platforms it will not be possible to register a new account or re-verify an old one. Along with this, the old operating systems will lose all updates – WhatsApp will stop releasing new versions of its messenger for them.
