Following Elon Musk and NASA, Chinese developers announced their readiness for a manned lunar expedition – the first photos of a new spaceship created in China have already appeared on the network. The novelty, according to its creators, is already preparing for flight tests and in the future will compete with similar decisions of other states.
The Chinese Academy of Space Technology (CAST) has published the first pictures of a new spacecraft, the official name of which has not yet been announced. The novelty is 9 meters high with a maximum weight of about 20 tons and consists of two modules – passenger and service, which will be responsible for flight control and life support of the astronauts. According to available information, the device is designed to fly into deep space and can carry on board from four to six people.
The first test of the passenger module took place in 2016, the test unmanned flight of the spacecraft is expected to take place in the first half of 2020 with the help of the Long March 5B heavy launch vehicle. Earlier, CAST Vice President Lee Min said that after the demonstration launches, the device can be quickly put into operation for flights to the Chinese space station.
Chinese media say that the country’s leadership plans a manned expedition to the moon by 2030. Although this project has not yet been approved, the development of an ultra-heavy Long March 9 launch vehicle, similar in its characteristics to the American Saturn V, developed by NASA, is currently underway.
